Jews settled in the American South starting in the late 1600s and numbered over 10,000 by 1860. One of their own, Judah P. Benjamin, was second in command to Jefferson Davis. What was the attitude of southern Jews toward the enslavement of millions of African Americans? To what extent did they own, trade, and auction enslaved people? What was their role in the Civil War? Based on recent scholarship, this talk will examine these weighty questions and their present-day significance.

The final in a series of tours in Israel led by Anat Harrel. Arab Muslim citizens of Israel are descendants of the Arab villagers who lived in this land before the 1948 Arab Israeli War. Their place in the Arab-Israeli conflict is extraordinarily complex as they belong to two worlds – they are Palestinian Arabs and Israeli citizens at once. Meet with a young man who studies Israel's enemies, the leader of a local Muslim community, an artist whose passion and art reflect his inner struggle of identity, a mother and daughter who are overcoming stereotypes and breaking the norms.
