Since we’ve been enjoying reading memoirs lately, our next selection is another book in the genre: What Language Do I Dream In? by Elena Lappin.
From Europe to North America and back again, through the 20th century’s upheavals, Lappin reconstructs the stories and secrets of her parents and grandparents. Lappin’s sense of her identity is complicated by her discovery in mid-life that her biological father was an American living in Russia. Suddenly English is more than an accidental “home in exile”, English is a language close to her from the beginning.
The Bookworms are borrowing a dozen copies from the Jewish Community Library. Stop by the front desk at Etz to sign out a copy, read, and return. The book is due back during the week of our book club meeting.
