Zooming the Talmud: Hadran Shekalim with Rabbi Emeritus Ari Cartun (virtual)

Thursday, April 15, 2021 3 Iyyar 5781

7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Appropriately, for what is usually the US Tax Day, we'll look at traditions and stories that arise from giving the annual half-shekel tax that was used to buy communal sacrifices, like these fun topics: What "other" Talmud? Why half a shekel? Why were the collection boxes called "shofars"? Did non-Jews offer sacrifices in the Temple? What was a talmudic "GoFundMe?" And, where (and why) was the Ark of the Covenant hidden under the floor of the Temple? No familiarity with Talmud or Hebrew is required, and all of your questions are welcome!
