“The Wandering Jew” - A Tisha B’av Program (Beyt Knesset)
Tuesday, August 13, 2024 • 9 Av 5784
7:00 PM - 9:00 PMJewish history is full of expulsions and wandering. The destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE, the Second Temple in 70 CE, and the expulsion from Spain in 1492 are all examples of expulsions that began on Tisha B’av. What does it mean to be a wandering people? How does it impact our identity? How does the existence and current state of Israel impact our individual and collective sense of rootedness? Join in community as we light candles, sit on the floor, sing, reflect, chant excerpts from the Book of Lamentation and discuss themes of wandering and rootedness, exile and home. The program will end with a potluck dinner to break the traditional Tisha B’av fast. All are welcome. Please register here.
