Saying Goodbye to The Woman-Written Torah
On the morning that Reform rabbis are ordained, before the service starts, they pass the Torah scroll around to feel its heft (honor/kavod, in Hebrew, is the same as weighty/kaveid). We will pass this and our other Torah scrolls around to evoke the feelings we have for the Torah, as a whole, and for this scroll in particular.
Our annotated Demonstration Torah Scroll will be open around the room, and past bar/t mitzvah class students will lead people on tours of scribal highlights in the Torah.
