Rosh Chodesh Group: Kislev (virtual)

Sunday, November 7, 2021 3 Kislev 5782

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

A time for those who identify as women to come together to build community, get to know each other, and celebrate the Rosh Chodesh (new moon, new month) holiday.

Our theme will be “signal fires.”  “In ancient times, the Rabbinic court of Jerusalem would send messengers to announce the coming of the new moon on six months of the year…. The new moon of Kislev was the first of these occasions, and it heralded the coming of Hanukkah. Once the new moon was announced, bonfires were lit in the hills about Jerusalem. Far-flung communities would see the bonfires and light their own, until all the Jewish communities knew that the new moon had come.” (Jill Hammer, The Jewish Book of Days).

What would it be like to see the signal fires?  If our souls could send us signal fires, what would they want us to know?  We’ll use multimedia to put us into the mood then we’ll have fun sleuthing for messages from the subconscious.

Supply list: A magazine that has at least one page with a lot of text, some notepaper, and a writing utensil.  The Zoom link will be sent to everyone on the Rosh Chodesh mailing list.  To be added, contact Sharon Fingold.
