We live in a polarized society in challenging times. These circumstances are not new to the Jewish people. Indeed, there is great Jewish wisdom from the ages to help us navigate and thrive in this kind of environment.  

Getting to and Beyond “Agreeing to Disagree” is a multi-session adult learning series that will explore how our tradition approaches constructive disagreement and how we can utilize classic Jewish texts to navigate modern controversies, to improve our civil discourse, and to enrich our personal relationships. How do we open ourselves to learning more about another person and their position? How can we deepen our desire and ability to understand and engage with differing or conflicting opinions? What are ways of establishing respectful and creative ways to disagree without disparagement? How do we create group policies and positions when we disagree? 

Abra will facilitate this series for adult learners using elements of the Pardes Institute Mahloket Matters curriculum she studied in Jerusalem over the summer of 2022. While each session will be a discrete learning segment, the program will have the most impact with a core group of people committed to attend at least four of the six scheduled sessions. Participation in the first session is highly recommended for anyone interested in the other sessions. The experience will be more rewarding and enriching to those who participate in person.
