6:30 AM - 9:00 AMShabbat Sovev Friday Night Experience with Rabbi Rebecca Schatz
Friday, April 5, 7:30 pm
Sovev means "surrounding" and this will be a service in the round. Shabbat Sovev was created at Temple Beth Am in Los Angeles by Rabbi Rebecca Shatz who will be recreating it here for us with our very own Rabbi Chaim Koritzinsky. Here's how she describes this prayer experience:
"Sovev is the transcendent aspect of the Divine, that which surrounds everything, that which we’re always swimming in, existing in. This shabbat could be an attempt to mimic that and access that. By davening (praying) in a circle, we are creating a space and a service to tap into the transcendent nature of the divine, to transcend ourselves, the prayer we could do on our own, the prayer that we could do with just words, or the normal nusach. Shabbat Sovev is a chance, sitting and singing in the round, to access God’s transcendent qualities."
This special service will incorporate traditional prayers and will be followed by an Oneg Shabbat. It is brought to you by Etz Chayim's SULAM Project- an incubator for prayer and music experimentation.
