Etznik Talk: Scientific Indications that Science is Not All-Knowing with Alex Sadovsky (virtual)

12:00 PM - 1:00 PMThe view that “science will (eventually) explain everything” seems to have emerged as part of the general tendency to offer “reason” as antithesis to religion. In this talk, we will explore several proven “negative” results in the exact sciences. Each of these results says that a given formula does not exist or that the given statement principally cannot be verified. Such results indicate that our ability to reason and verbalize is limited, not temporarily, but principally. This leaves comfortable room for postulating a Supreme Being that is principally beyond our full comprehension.
Alex’s background is in applied mathematics. He works for NASA’s Aeronautics Directorate and researches methods of managing air traffic and adjacent problems. He has previously done research in biomechanics and mathematical oncology at the University of California, Irvine. Alex’s hobbies include playing the trombone and practicing jujitsu, but not at the same time.
