ETZ Talk - Living and Teaching the Jewish Value of Tzedakah
Sunday, December 9, 2018 • 1 Tevet 5779
10:00 AM - 11:30 AMLiving and Teaching the Jewish Value of Tzedakah
Ora Gittelson David
We will explore our own ideas about Tzedakah, righteous giving, how we may practice it in our own lives and how we can pass on the practice or habit to our children. We will look at what our Jewish texts say about this mitzvah and the sometime contradictory nature of the texts. A plan of action as to how to decide upon our Tzedakah priorities will also be a part of the session.
Ora Gittelson David is the Director of Jewish Studies at Gideon Hausner, where she has been on staff for the past 15 years. Although Jewish Education is in her blood as the daughter of two Jewish educators, this is her second career after receiving an MSW from Wurzweiler School of Social Work of Yeshiva University and working as a social worker with a wide variety of populations in Israel and the States. After graduate school,
Ora made aliyah to Israel, met her husband Yosi and gave birth to three children, Hila, Michal and Nadav, all Jewish day school graduates. Ora received her teacher training at the DeLet Program at Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles. For the past 12 years, Ora has coordinated the school's Avodah La'Olam (Work for the World) project, Hausner's award winning philanthropy project and coordinated the community service learning projects of the school. Ora is a recipient of the The Helen Diller Family Award for Jewish Excellence in Jewish Education in 2015 and an active member of Kol Emeth.
ETZ TALKS are made possible by Jewish LearningWorks and the Newton and Rochelle Becker Charitable Trust and the members of Etz Chayim
