Etz Bookworms Group (Rm. 12)
Sunday, March 20, 2016 • 10 Adar II 5776
4:30 PM - 6:00 PMLet's read together again! The Etz Chayim bookworms return on Sunday, March 20, at 4:30 p.m.
Our book is The Periodic Table, by Primo Levi. "Defying categorization, The Periodic Table is a pioneering work in its creative approach to memoir; it was named the greatest science book ever written by the Royal Institution of Great Britain, and it is an invaluable record both of Levi’s life and of the experience of Jews in northern Italy. Levi, who was a chemist by profession, uses the elements as a frame for stories of his life in the Jewish community of Turin, his work with the Partisans, and some extraordinary experiences during and after the War. "
This book was selected for 2015-2016 by the Jewish Community Library for its One Bay One Book program. OBOB is sort of like a city-wide Jewish book club. Just about every Jewish book reader from Palo Alto to Berkeley shares this book; we cultivate a shared literary experience. Etz Chayim has been part of OBOB every year since its inception, and we have loved every book we have read through this unique program.
Ellen is planning a JCL-led discussion group at Etz Chayim later this spring, so the meeting on Sun 3/20 at 4:30 p.m. is not your last chance to engage with this book.
