Join Congregation Etz Chayim and Spark Church as we host a series of conversations where we look at various dimensions of structural injustice and how it relates to racism: in immigration, educational inequality, criminal justice, and economic inequity, after which we will think together about action we might take to challenge these systems. This series will be facilitated by Hope Horizon East Palo Alto.
The content of this series was created to be best experienced as an in-person experience if possible, though an online option will be made available.
Thursday session dates and topics:
Oct 20th: Immigration
Oct 27th: Poverty
Nov 3rd: Educational Inequity
Nov 10th: Criminal Justice
Nov 17th: Debrief and Call to Action
There will be an optional time for processing from 8:30-9 after each session
Goals of this series:
- TRUTH: Establish a knowledge base about current issues that can be used as a foundation to respond to racism and injustice and as a tool for conversation with others
- JUSTICE: Encourage our congregations to confront systems of racism and inequality through intentional relationships, service, integration of work and faith, finances, advocacy and prayer
- COMPASSION: Cultivate compassion for those in our country who are affected by racism and unjust systems and humanize the experience of the marginalized
