Community Yom Ha'atzmaut Gathering (Kol Emeth)
Tuesday, April 25, 2023 • 4 Iyyar 5783
7:00 PM - 8:00 PMEtz Chayim, Kol Emeth, Beth Am, and Keddem are coming together to observe the transition from Yom HaZikaron (the day of memory) to Yom HaAtzmaut (the day of celebrating Israeli independence).
We will recite the memorial prayer for those who have given their lives in the defense of the State of Israel and say a special kaddish for them at the conclusion of Minchah, the afternoon service.
Then we will chant selections from the Scroll of Independence, Israel’s Declaration of Independence, as we remind ourselves of the values of democracy, openness, and peace that were central to the State’s founding. We will talk about some of our hopes for the future of Israel and what our dreams look like as we imagine the maturing of the Jewish State.
Then, after sorrow and contemplation comes joy. It is a blessing to live in an era with Israel. It is a blessing to live as free Jews who can visit our land anytime we want, so we will celebrate with Israeli music and birthday cupcakes!
