AdventurEtz -- Montara Mountain -- Sunday, January 11, 2015

This is a new destination for AdventurEtz. It is moderately difficult relative to other hikes we have done, so if in doubt about the difficulty, please send Steve an e-mail stephen.branz@sjsu.edu

Distance:  6.7 miles round trip

Elevation Gain:  1700' (moderately difficult; by way of comparison, hiking Windy Hill is only 1100' of elevation gain in 6.6 miles)

Estimated Time Hiking, including lunch at the summit:  4.0-4.5 hours  (plus 45 min commuting each way)

GoogleMaps directions from Etz Chayim to San Pedro Valley County Park, Oddstad Boulevard, Pacifica, CA -- http://goo.gl/maps/xJ3oj

Cost:  $6 cash parking fee or street parking on Rosita Rd.

Description:
This hike will start from San Pedro Valley County Park, near the town of Pacifica.  See http://parks.smcgov.org/montara-mountain-trail for details about this local park and its trails.  The hike will take us up into the scenic rolling hills along the west side of the Peninsula.  If we're lucky enough to have clear skies, then we'll enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific coast, the coastal mountains, San Francisco, Mt. Tamalpais, Mt. Diablo and perhaps some other landmarks.

What to Bring:
The usual:  Backpack with water (1 liter minimum), lunch, a sun hat, sunblock and some snacks. Dress warmly in layers, including a wind breaker as it is often quite windy at the summit.  I suggest carrying a wool hat and gloves. -- Dogs and other pets are not allowed at San Pedro Park.

Logistics:

1)  RSVP including whether you plan to carpool from Etz or not.

2)  We will meet in front of the Visitor's Center, near the entrance to the park at 10:15 am.

3)  If you wish to carpool, meet at Etz by 9:15 am for a 9:25 am departure.

NOTE:  This will be our second adventure on 2015 in just 11 days.  It will be the last AdventurEtz hike until at least March (unless someone else volunteers to lead a trip).
