AdventurEtz Hike at Phleger Estate (Offsite)
Sunday, November 9, 2014 • 16 Cheshvan 5775
12:30 PM - 4:00 PM
Phleger Estate
(entrance via Huddart County Park)
then late lunch at the Woodside Bakery for those who are interested
WHERE: Phleger Estate (a Golden Gate National Recreation Area with access from Huddart Park (a San Mateo County park)). It will be easier to carpool from the parking lot for the Woodside Bakery & Cafe (directions from Etz Chayim at http://goo.gl/maps/oKSH6; approx 20 min driving time). Let's meet there at 9:00 am and consolidate cars for carpooling into the park.
The hike will be approx 6.6 miles total with approx 500 feet vertical. Our route from Zwierlein parking lot = Crystal Springs Trail -> Richards Road connector -> Miramontes -> Mount Redondo -> Raymundo -> Miramontes & backtrack to the junction with Crystal Springs Trail for an alternate return to the parking lot.
DIRECTIONS to Woodside Bakery & Cafe (for those who don't like the GoogleMap link above): Easy -- from 280, take the Woodside Rd exit west (Rte 84). It's less than one mile up the hill to a four-way stop sign. The parking lot is on the right side immediately after going through the intersection
CARPOOLING to Woodside is possible also. If interested, or even inf not interested in carpooling, let me know when you RSVP Yes for the hike and I will try to match up those who are interested.
AFTERS: We should finish and be back in Woodside by 1:30 pm (2:00 pm at latest). OPTIONAL: late lunch at the Woodside Bakery & Cafe.
RSVP: Please if you want to join in. It will help in case you are running late so we'll know to wait prior to starting the hike; also for carpooling from Woodside to Huddart. Send a cell phone # too. (Emily & I volunteer to drive/carpool the first 5 who wish to start from our Palo Alto home, 402 El Verano Ave 94306).
MISC: We'll be hiking mostly in shade, but still a good idea to wear suncreen (and a hat is also suggested). Carry a snack and at least one liter of water. These trails tend to be more narrow than those in Huddart; with poison oak intruding on the trail in some sections, consider long pants.
