Adult Learning: A Question of Ethics (Library)
Thursday, November 30, 2017 • 12 Kislev 5778
7:00 PM - 8:30 PMA Question of Ethics: Commandments, Personal Virtues and Jewish Law and the Development of a Personal Jewish Ethic, an adult learning series taught by Abra Greenspan in November and December. Jewish Ethics will also be the topic addressed in January by Ethicist Louis Newman, PhD of Stanford University during our Scholar-in-Residence weekend.
In this four-part series, we will explore the origins of and ways in which ethical behavior is expressed in Judaism. The Torah, Talmudic ruling, Jewish Medieval moral philosophy, and 19th century teachings in character-development (Mussar) will be among the sources we examine. Modern influences including the Enlightenment, the notion of ethical monotheism and the complex multiplicity of contemporary Judaisms will also contribute to each of us defining and developing a personal Jewish ethic.
Classes will meet on Thursdays, November 30, December 7, December 14, and December 21, 7:00 - 8:30 pm. Free and open to all, but there will be a suggested donation at the first class to help cover course materials.
Sorry, Registration has ended.
