Our Covid 19 Protocols

Effective 8/31/20

In order to protect the health of every Etz Chayim employee, congregant, tenant and guest, in addition to observing all requirements of the current Santa Clara County Health Order (available here:, each Etz Chayim employee must strictly comply with each of the following supplemental requirements:

  1. If you are exhibiting any symptoms of Covid-19, including but not limited to fever, cough, chills, or trouble breathing, have been in close contact with anyone exhibiting symptoms within the last 14 days, or if you simply feel that your health or the health of others may be at risk if you come to the synagogue, please do not come to Etz Chayim; notify Ellen Bob or Elisabeth Rubinfien.
  2. You must wear a mask before entering the building and while you are in every part of the building except your office, if you have an office.   A mask is not required in your own office.  While you are in your office you may keep the door open or closed.
  3. Use hand sanitizer or wash your hands immediately upon entering the building and before entering your office.
  4. You may not enter the office of any other employee, and may not be in the kitchen or copy room at the same time as any other person.  If you are in any other room with another person, you must observe the 6’ social distancing requirement.
  5. The bathrooms will be sanitized three evenings per week.  However, be aware when touching common surfaces that they may not have been sanitized recently.
  6. You are encouraged to hold any needed in-person meetings with other staff members outside the building.  You are required to hold any in-person meetings with anyone other than an Etz Chayim employee outside the building (except a mask-wearing person whose purpose for coming to Etz Chayim requires them to come into the building).
  7. Visitors.  Until Etz Chayim is open to its members and the public, only those visitors who are required to perform essential functions, e.g. maintenance, security, etc. may enter the building.   As to any person other than an Etz Chayim employee whom you intend to meet with or allow inside the building, Ellen Bob should, whenever possible, be notified at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the requested visit to ensure that there are not an unsafe number of persons, including employees, in the synagogue at any one time. Visitors will be asked to complete a questionnaire prior to entering the building. Visitors who exhibit any symptoms of Covid-19 or may have been exposed to someone who has Covid-19 or is exhibiting symptoms will not be allowed into the building.  Whether your meeting is inside or outside, you must observe the 6’ social distancing requirement.
  8. If you become aware that you have been exposed to the Covid-19 virus, you must notify Ellen Bob or Elisabeth Rubinfien immediately, and may not return to the synagogue until 14 days after the exposure or after you have tested negative for the virus.
